Terms of use

Last updated August 30, 2026

Written from what the software actually does. Not reviewed by a lawyer — have counsel review it before relying on it.

By using MovieKnight you agree to what follows. If you do not, please don't use it.

What MovieKnight is

A tool for deciding what to watch: it searches a catalogue of films and television, suggests titles for a group and a time budget, and tells you where a title appears to be available. It is not a streaming service. Nothing is hosted or played here except trailers embedded from YouTube. Watching anything means going to whoever actually carries it, under their terms and their subscription.

Availability information

Where-to-watch data comes from third parties, is currently oriented to Canada, and goes out of date. Catalogues change without notice. Treat it as a strong hint, not a guarantee — always confirm on the provider before you count on something being there.

Your account

You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your credentials to yourself. Give us an email address you actually control. One account per person.

Your content

Your ratings, lists, notes and messages remain yours. You give us only the permission needed to run the service — to store what you write, show it back to you, and show it to the people you have chosen to share it with, such as friends or the people in your party. We do not claim ownership and we do not license it onward.

Acceptable use

  • Don't harass, threaten or abuse other users through messages or lists.
  • Don't scrape the catalogue in bulk or hammer the service automatically.
  • Don't try to reach accounts, data or systems that aren't yours.
  • Don't use MovieKnight to point people at pirated copies.

We may suspend an account that does these things.

Catalogue data

Film and television metadata and artwork come from TMDB and other providers and remain theirs, used under their terms. MovieKnight is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

Availability of the service

MovieKnight is provided as is. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, that recommendations will suit you, or that availability data will be accurate. Features may change or be withdrawn. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of the service — including a bad film on a Friday night.

Ending it

You can stop at any time. Export your history first from your profile if you want to keep it — see the privacy page for what deletion covers.

Changes

We will update the date at the top of this page when these terms change materially. Continuing to use MovieKnight after that means you accept the revision.
